We are a civic society which is affiliated to the Campaign to Protect Rural England, and we try to encourage high standards of planning and architecture in both the town and surrounding villages. These include the preservation, protection and improvement of amenities and features of public interest. We also keep members informed about the local environment.
We achieve these aims by inspecting and commenting upon all relevant planning applications, especially when they relate to listed buildings, and those in a conservation area. All meetings of the Fordingbridge Town Council Planning Committee are attended by a delegate from our Executive Committee who expresses our views where appropriate. We also communicate with New Forest District Council to express our views.

Right now we have a BIG concern about New Forest District Council planning to put 500 homes in and surrounding Fordingbridge. The planning application for the first 100 houses to be built on the East side of Whitsbury Road has now been received by New Forest District Council. Our concern is the access to this site. We believe that this must b e with a link road to the A338. However, our Town Council have also raised several other difficulties and have stated their rejection to N.F.D.C. Points raised are the need for facilities to be dealt with before going ahead with a planning application. We agree that there is a need to see the effect on schools, doctors as well as the access to the site for b uilding materials and exit for future residents.
In addition to this website, we publish to all members a 4-monthly newsletter “The Fordingbridger” to report upon our actions in response to proposed and in-progress developments in the town. Our Editor is always pleased to receive articles of general interest and, in particular, of relevance to our stated aims.
The Executive Committee meets regularly to consider suitable action on issues of interest and concern.
With over 150 members we have significant influence in our dealings with the local authorities, and the more members we have the greater is our strength. So, please join us – click here for the application form with full details of membership rates. If you have any queries, the committee will be pleased to hear from you (see Contacts).
